Stephen Marsh

One of the rising stars of New Zealand’s training ranks, Stephen was destined to have a big future in racing, being the son of master trainer and Melbourne Cup winning jockey, Bruce Marsh.

On leaving school Stephen worked for his father for 5 years before joining him in partnership. The three year training partnership produced outstanding Group 1 victories with Russian Pearl in the Bayer Classic and Hail in the Zabeel Classic.

Stephen branched out on his own in the 2004/05 season when Bruce Marsh moved to Singapore to train. Stephen met with immediate success and has had an outstanding two seasons since season, with Group winners such as Chettak, The Auld Hussie and exciting gallopers like Anca taking him to the fore of the training ranks. Last season saw Stephen score 29 victories at a strike rate of one winner to every 7 starters.

In 2008 Stephen opened a second stable in Cambridge to complement the Woodville stable which has been in the family for 30 years.
