O for a horse with wings!
A Champion of racing in every sense of the word, Lance O’Sullivan was New Zealand’s most successful jockey of all time, with 2479 wins, winning every Group 1 race in New Zealand, at least once.
Turning his hand to training in 2004, he has quickly followed in the footsteps of his Champion training Father, Dave and brother, Paul, winning the Group 1 Easter Handicap with Calveen in 2005, and followed that up winning the 2006 Auckland Cup with the high class stayer Pentane.
In the 2006/07 season Lance was been joined by Andrew Scott, an exciting young talent who has already trained two Derby and one Kelt Capital Stakes winners in his previous partnership. The duo finished in the top 10 trainers in New Zealand last season with an outstanding strike rate of one winner to less than every 7 starters.
Lance and Andrew train from Wexford stables in Matamata which has a unique 2000 metre straight training track, similar in style to the Newmarket training centre in England and bordering the Matamata race track.
